Segrate it’s crossed from East to West by Cassanese, a 3,3 km street that bisects the urban and social fabric. The Cassanese (former SP103) constitutes a real physical barrier that over the years has caused a fracture of relations between neighborhoods, creating difficulties in use of some services and in people gathering. With the realization of Cassanese Bis will proceed to actually downgrade the city section of the former provincial road, therefore activating concrete restiching measures of the urban tissue inserted in the abitious project of the Green Kilometer.
Environment centered
The environmental thematics have vital importance for the Administration, for this reason the sumptuous Green Kilometer project is part of a naturalistic perspective constituted by green elements where pedestrian and bycycle paths will connect the neighborhoods of the City.
It has been considered appropriate to start the design process from the ideas coming from postgraduates of the Polytechnic Schools.
The Administration hopes that their detached knowledge of the urban context examined, will be the key in developing original and unique projects, also thanks to their fresh technical knowledge acquired during their university career.
An International Competition of Ideas open to students has been therefore established and announced, in order to receive brilliant ideas looking forward to the subsequent Design Competition open to designers.

General goals
The Administration’s goal is to redevelop and rethink the entire section of the Old Cassanese, when the Cassanese Bis under construction will be opened (end of works scheduled for the year 2023). The purpose of the Competition of Ideas is to collect original suggestions to be proposed as the basis of an International Design Competition that will be further developed in a second phase.
